Poor Excuse for Choosing Bad Character
In 2016, highly influential evangelical leader, Jerry Falwell Jr., endorsed Donald Trump’s candidacy despite the candidate’s gross shortcomings in character. He said, “We’re not choosing the pastor-in-chief, we’re choosing the President of the United States.” In doing this he broke rank with God, for this is not how the Almighty taught us when He chose David to be king. For, in choosing David, God found a man after His own heart.
Trump, “the best doctor”
The irony is that Falwell said that he saw in Trump a man who loved people and went on to say, “if you had a young child who was ill you would want to choose the best doctor.” With 250 000 Americans dead, largely because of Trump’s politicking and despite his confessed early knowledge of the danger of the coronavirus, it seems that he has loved himself, power, and the dollar more than the American people.
Church Leaders Follow Evil and the People Follow Suit
If America is in a mess today, it’s because evangelicals sidestepped serious character flaws in Trump and then went on to excuse his behavior throughout his term of office. In their blind zeal for God, they endorsed a “fox” rather than a man after God’s own heart or even just a good man like God found in king Cyrus of Persia.
Consequently, America’s evangelical leaders are not unlike the prophets and priests in the days of Judah. For Jeremiah writes, “The prophets follow an evil course and use their power unjustly. ‘Both prophet and priest…I find their wickedness,’ declares the Lord” (Jer. 23:10-11 NIV).
Repent!
Church leaders like Falwell, Franklin Graham, Kenneth Copeland, Paula White, and countless others must repent of endorsing evil and for helping to lead the church and the nation into the idolatry of Trumpism. Furthermore, the church must repent of making super-gurus out of church leaders, for this idolatry causes Christians to be led by people rather than God.
Jesus does not take kindly to false teaching and idolatry. For, to the church of Pergamum, He says, “I have a few things against you: There are some among you…who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth” (Rev. 2:14-16 NIV).

Look you really use a lot of words here & scramble them all up so people cannot understand what you’re saying. One minute you’re saying you like Trump & then you’re calling out “Trumpism”! So just tell me this, “Do you really think with all the evil, corrupt, and molesting children too is good for the U.S.A. & it’s people??? Joe Biden is a pervert for one plus I read that the way he found his wife & she was married to another man & she decided to go with Joe Biden. That’s one thing and his speeches about how he loves when children play with the hair on his legs. I wanted to vomit!!! Plus his son who he is very close with… OMG I could be here all day. The people voted President Trump into office once & now they want him again because Biden & even said himself that he had the BEST inclusive & comprehensive voter fraud operation (quote unquote). OMG I pray to the Lord to watch over & keep the man that brought Him back to the White House safe from harm & let justice & honesty be served. Dude, stop listening to the TV & find the honest facts as to what our President has done for his people by stopping the evil that has overcome the United States of America!
Thanks for your thoughts XmasDolly. My post was not about Trump vs Biden 2020. It was about Christians who chose to overlook Donald Trump’s character when they endorsed him as the Republican candidate in 2016. Then, after he won, they continued to make excuses for his behaviour.
XmasDolly, with regard to the allegations that you have made concerning President-elect Biden, if any are true, or found to be true, then they should be considered in light of the man’s current life. If he is living in sin or lying about sin, then that should be addressed. For we have all sinned and can be forgiven (and that includes Donald Trump), but we cannot excuse a flagrantly sinful life which is what many in the church have been doing with the President.
Thank you for the message, pastor. Totally agree with you. Who in a right mind could call themselves a Christian and follow a man who separated babies and a young child from their parents, just to please a crowd of bloodthirsty sinners called “his base”? You are talking about a man who was taught from childhood that he can’t lose, he must always win, regardless of how many people he has to hurt, or even kill. Everyone who voted for this man is responsible for his atrocities against humanity, his country, and the whole world’s current situation, all those who enjoy seeing their leader calling poor countries “excrement holes”, and has no concept of compassion, diplomatic relationships, or any other essential trait of a leader.
Thank you, Gustavo. Yes, it’s quite shocking what has been said by the President and what has occurred under his watch. I agree that everyone who supported him without holding him to account is also responsible.
